Read and explore your opinion on abortion, if it is a crime or a right, through this article by Nandini Sinha.

The topic of abortion has been a controversy that has been heatedly argued about for years. Some see it as an ethical issue, while others see it as an issue concerning human rights. Strong arguments have often made people question their stand on this matter. As an advocator for Pro-choice, I, for one, can definitely say that during my research, I began to understand why some people are Pro-life, and was almost swayed by the things that other people had to say about abortion. However, through this article, I’d like to outline the two most vexed arguments given against and for abortion.
Around 5% of rape victims are left impregnated by their rapist, but are still denied the choice of abortion as it is said that ‘a sin should not be followed up with an even bigger sin’. Some also state that a fetus shouldn’t be punished for the crimes of its father by receiving death penalty instead either.
Rape is a bad enough crime as it is, but forcing a woman to carry and eventually raise a constant reminder of her trauma and violent assault is unjustifiable. Moreover, in most cases, the victims are young women with dreams and aspirations that they eventually have to give up in order to live a life that was forced upon them, and not prepared for. To deny the right to a choice of abortion is cases like this would be cruel and lacking in compassion.
Another reason why most abortions take place is to end unwanted pregnancies. In such cases, the women are told that they should be held responsible for their actions. However, at times, even after the correct use of contraception, the methods that are deemed effective fail. Again, the woman would also probably have a good reason to why she doesn’t want to have a child just yet. It could be because she wants to finish her education or achieve her goals without having to bear the responsibility of a child, because she doesn’t think her financial situation would be right to be able to afford a child. Having a child should a woman’s choice, as she would be the one carrying it inside her for 40 weeks, even if she does later decide to give the baby up for adoption.
They say that an unborn child has its own rights and should be considered as a living being too- but should the rights and the freedom to choose of an actual living, breathing being be looked past for this reason?
