International Day of Education

The Youth's Lens x DIMUN by Kabir Chatterjee.

The 24th of January is officially considered the International Day of Education all across the world. However, when we think about this day, the first thing that comes to mind is just how important education is?. What we fail to consider, is what we should really include in education?

In today’s age, everything is stereotyped or narrowed down into a category. This includes education. We grow up in a society where education is narrowed down into categories, sciences, commerce, and arts. Even though all the subjects in all of these categories play a huge role in creating a strong educational foundation for children, there’s more to education. It is a tool to build a better future a force that is more than a confined space. The system which we need today is where a brain is needed to be developed rather than a assembly line.

On the other hand, things are changing, our minds are broadening, our world view is growing. If it wasn’t for competitive conferences like the Model United Nations, today’s generation would be a lot less aware of their rights, and how the world works. This conference seems insignificant today, but in the long run, participating in the same transforms us into wholesome individuals.

Which is why we should be celebrating a lot more than just the quintessential subjects we study in school.
