Sharing Boundaries - Something You Should Have Learned About?

Updated: Sep 16, 2018

Should we or shouldn't we share .... our boundaries.... read the answer by Shubhashree Sathe.

To all Indians reading this think about all the stuff you were taught about a neighbouring country of yours named Pakistan in school and all the non indians reading this think about what is the first impression that comes to your mind when you think about the relation that india and pakistan share as a country.

I guess the answers in both the scenarios are quite obvious, all unpleasent and violent stuff is what everyone remembers. But not all indians and pakistanis share the same relation.

We as indians have been taught so many bad things about pakistani people that we have forgotten to view them as normal human beings. Our mind has been brainwashed so much that we first think of them as pakistanis, then as people and probably never as another human being. We have been taught that it was always pakistan who initiated the war and india won it always, and we accept facts so blindly that we never thought about the perspective and how much of the story could be just propaganda!

Well you might find my argument baseless and unusual, especially when it comes from a patriotic indian girl, but guys here me out. What makes a country a country, neither its geographical area nor its political boundaries, but its citizens. It is us who constitute our country and it is we who can shape it. What if indians and pakistanis treated each other as just another human beings? Why does it sound so wierd? I agree to the fact that are political and international disputes that need to be resolved and this is an extreme state of idealism but it can be achieved.

When you are in an international community, staying with people from all over the world, a chat with a pakistani with her/him speaking in urdu and you speaking hindi is what makes you feel home. It is this love of sharing the same language that makes us forget the political tensions that our countries share, it is all that it takes to erase hatred and move towards this rather idealistic state.

I know this sounds like ignoring reality, but what i mean to say is that darkness cannot erase darkness, it is only light that can erase it. It is only love between the citizens of both the countries that can help heal the tensions between them. It is only that one step of looking at them as another human beings, that it takes to share this bond.
