A poem by Samira Jha about disease.

Pools of milk white
Conquer territories on my copper ground
Meandering along my palm
Gently greeting my fingers with a kiss
The same ivory blankets my eyelids
Caressing my eyelashes,
Carelessly flirting with the pigment shying away,
I stare at my reflection
Watching the white silently map my body
With no intention of return,
Victorious in their battle against the melanin,
Triumphantly waving flags of success
As the brown cowers in defeat
Surrendering their turf
