The Bystanders

A poem to fight against bullying by Divya Robinson.

I know all it takes is one voice-

One person willing to stand strong.

I know all it takes is one choice

To correct the happening wrongs.

When I had no voice of my own

And no one tried to save me

My sufferings I had borne

In simple solitary.

I cried for mercy

I begged for help

Hated that nobody

Would take the right step.

Yet, now I stand here

As the little boy’s cheeks flush

A simple bystander

As the bully throws a punch.

I’m standing right here

At the safe sidelines

As the boy cowers in fear

And lets out a whine.

All it will take

Is one person standing strong

And yet I refuse it be me

Who corrects these wrongs.
