Mental health. Discussing mental health is important. Understanding what it is, why is it crucial and what individuals who are insecure about their mental health are facing.
Talking about mental health in a country such as India is still considered a taboo; but it’s changing. Individuals are understanding how important it is to discuss any issue they are facing no matter how big or small. Going to a shrink is not a bad thing. Society needs to learn to accept that sometimes an individual requires someone to talk to, to vent out their feelings, to have a healthy discussion with a professional to understand what problem one is facing which is impacting their lifestyle.
“You can rest and keep going at the same time. There is still strength in stillness.” - Shelby Leinbach.
One real quote. Simple but powerful. Sometimes taking a breath, counting to 10 or speaking to someone all make you strong. They keep you going at the same time, they make you believe you are more than this, that you are different and that you are important. Mental health is being emotionally, psychologically and socially balanced but sometimes it doesn’t go down that road.
Individuals go through depression, anxiety, they have suicidal thoughts and are scared of the thought that someone will call them mentally unstable, someone will call them mad and just the thought of being excluded from society terrifies them. Everyday a new Instagram post pops up about mental health and how we should embrace it which shows how much our society is changing. It is becoming one big entity where individuals are continuing to support each other, trying to make a safe environment to discuss mental health and a planet to promote the well-being of its inhabitants.
Mental illnesses promote the importance of discussing mental health. Being mentally ill is not a crime, it is not a choice and most importantly is not a burden. It can be solved, it will be solved and most importantly the belief that one can get over it is of utmost importance. Belief that one can lead a normal life, belief that one can be happy again and belief that one can be mentally healthy.
