change
/tʃeɪn(d)ʒ/
an act or process through which something becomes different.
Hundreds of teenagers take it to their Instagram stories to reprimand the previous
generations for destroying the planet for us! With our lights and air conditioners turned on, our gadgets charging for hours and the television blaring in the background, we really do know how to make a difference!
Veraciously, we are not wrong but are we doing our part in assuring no further damage is caused? It really is a dynamic revelation but as the youth strives to make their voices heard, we must step back and question, is it all really just incoherent noise?
With recent advancements, like Greta Thunberg’s movements and the Aarey forest protests, people must realize that change is now extremely mandatory. We must question our choices each day and comprehend the situation with diplomacy rather than ranting about insufficient governmental efforts or lack of perspective in the eyes of the previous generations. Climate experts state, watching just half an hour of your favourite show everyday, causes carbon dioxide emissions equivalent to driving 6.3 Km. Yet, we continue to blame the others rather than holding ourselves accountable for these atrocious occurrences.
Activists such as Greta Thunberg provide vision and motivation yet it is up to us, to look
beyond the meaningless campaigns and rallies and start actively moving towards change. Ultimately, we are all have the same goal but we are continuing to obscure the real cause behind it. With awareness on social platforms, we have sent the message across, but now it is time to really make a difference.
A vast majority claim, that the youth can only cause pandemonium and that we are
incapable of structuring legitimate change. The urgency of our protests manifest the very limited circumstance of opportunity remaining to create a positive change. We are already walking the boundaries of the possibility of the reversal of all the damage caused, and the world’s leading climate scientists agree that we have only 12 years to confine global warming to a maximum of 1.5°C.
Therefore, those who truly care about the environment will learn to make a difference
besides adding to the commotion. They will take small yet pivotal measures to ensure
change, performing it with a vision for the betterment. Everyone must decipher the immense power in GenZ that will be able to bring change without wasting hours on futile disruption. Needless to say, we must unite as one frontier and take climate change seriously rather than quarrelling with absurd frustration!
Earth can still be mended provided we make viable changes and begin to to fight the
problem instead of each other!
