As a nation, we might have been successful in recent past due to the miraculous deeds done by the leaders which sworn to change tomorrow for the sake of our country. But we today have failed as humans. People across the globe have continuously tried to raise awareness about providing equality to women but those hardly matter right now. A person dies at that instant when their dignity has been snatched. Today, India has seen some of the heinous deeds perhaps dirty deeds done by the same brethren who once had sworn to protect their sisters at all costs at some point of their life. This has indeed scarred India and the wounds would continue to bleed until some serious action takes place
I'm talking about the recent rape cases which has occurred in the span of two days. According to Reuters, India is the most dangerous place in the world for women. The recent cases have taken a storm in the internet and has made everyone aware of the dangers that lurk in the dark streets, in the backseat of a cab, behind the walls of isolated buildings and most commonly the undying cries in the enchanted forests. People have continuous criticised our government for not taking strict actions against these devils but are they the one to blame? A woman has to pass through a barricade of challenges before she is even born. In some villages, killing the baby girl inside the womb of a mother is still practiced. After that she has to go through many class and religious walls before she could take up a job and add some value to the growth of the country as well as herself.
But no matter how much equality we preach, still there will be always a majority who would prevent the progress of girls. At this point they feel helpless and deserted. Rapists take advantage of this helplessness and strike at the precise moment. They feel that the woman would be too ashamed to report this to the police and would remain quiet. As the rightful citizens of this country, it is our duty to stand by our sisters to assure that we are with them at all times.
In Saudi Arabia, a person had raped a minor and was executed in the public. People had flooded with comments which said that the same must be done in India. This might sound just but it has a flaw. We have seen a case where a girl in an university of Delhi asked her male friends to beat up two guys because they had sexually assaulted her. In reality, they had just politely asked her to mover her car as it was parked at the wrong spot. If our police killed on accusations, there would be many unjust deaths across the nation. I feel that government has in reality implemented quite a few measures for safety of women like emergency helplines, CCTV cameras and deployment of police in remotest places but along with that what I feel is that government forgot the main element. If children belonging to rural areas are taught about these subjects and educated, this would eradicate the problem from most of the areas. Girls should be given self defence practice and a can of pepper spray to defend themselves and at last-awareness. If these measures are taken in consideration, I feel we would be able to build a more happy India for women who will at last be proud of being the daughters of this mother nation.
