Humayun's tomb, built by Humayun's senior widow wife,Haji Begam ,is located on the Mathura road area of New Delhi . In all .there are over 100 graves within the entire complex. Since the graves are not inscribed with names ,their identification is really difficult . The main tomb was designed by a Persian architect ,Mirak Mirza Ghiyas . Surprisingly ,Humayun's corpse wasn't immediately buried here ,after his death in 1557. His body was first buried in his palace in Purana Quila at Delhi. Thereafter it was taken to Sirhind, in Punjab and, in 1558, it was seen by Humayun's son, Akbar. He subsequently visited the tomb in 1571, when it was about to be completed after which his body was buried here. It was the first Mughal garden tomb in the entire subcontinent.
Another interesting fact about this place is that it was one of the main inspirations for the later built,Taj Mahal in Agra. During the partition of India and Pakistan in 1947,Humayun's tomb became a refugee camp for Muslims.
This place is so symmetrical and built with so much precision that sometimes it's difficult to figure out where you start walking from and where you end up.
