Local markets are often endorsed as one of the best places where you can get a taste of a country's culture. After all, it's where you can find domestic stores hiding from big branded outlets that have taken over most cities.
Markets are also where you can find five different prices for the same product- ten if you're a foreigner, and maybe fifteen if you're a good haggler.
Large plastic crates ladled with tea is a quintessential sight in Asian markets- as well as a variety of dried herbs, and carts of street food. If you're not lucky enough to be propelled through the crowds by getting shoved by the throngs of people(and motorcycles) behind you, you'll have enough time to get to know the locals a little bit better by conversing with the stall owners while making a selection for suitable souvenirs and gifts to take back home.
